Georgia State will own all rights to Turner Field after acquiring the facility from the city of Atlanta. With the Atlanta Braves moving to SunTrust Park in Cobb County next year many wondered what would become of Turner Field.
Some feared that the facility may be in store for the wrecking ball but now that Georgia State has bought the ballpark the plan is to move the football team's home game from the mammoth Georgia Dome, to Turner Field.
Georgia State representatives have also said that they wish to turn Turner Field into a baseball stadium as well.
As a neutral observer, this move appears to be a major coup for Georgia State. Dubbed as a commuter school, GSU has the potential to change the whole perception of their university with this acquisition as they also plan to build dorms with the new space as well.
Georgia State hopes that Turner Field will be ready for use by all things Georgia State next year. With this purchase one would think that Georgia State has one of the best facilities in the Sun Belt Conference.
