Conference USA Media days are less than a week away and with that being the case the conference has released their annual All-Conference Awards list with Trey Hendrickson tabbed as the Defensive Player of the Year.
Last season Hendrickson led CUSA with 13.5 sacks, good enough to finish second nationally in sacks registered. Hendrickson is already FAU's all-time career sack list holder at 20 and the only thing left to accomplish in his prestigious FAU career is to help lead the Owls to a bowl game.
Hendrickson won't have to do it alone as the defense should be one of the best in the conference and the coaches agree as FAU had the most players in CUSA All-Defense team. Including Hendrickson, four Owls were placed on All-CUSA Defense as linebacker Azeez Al-Shaair, and defensive backs Ocie Rose and Jalen Young were the others look to improve a defense that set the program's all-time single-season sack record at 35.
If you see punting as part of the defensive unit you could add the total to five as Dalton Shump received Special Teams Player of the Year honors. Last season Shump led the nation with 48 yards per punt.
After having no one selected in last season's preseason All-CUSA First Team Offense, lineman Reggie Bain was tabbed as the only FAU player to make it on this year's All-CUSA Offense team.
With so many new faces on offense this season that shouldn't come to a surprise. Next week CUSA Media Days will begin where media poll predictions for who will win CUSA will be announced.
