DeMarcus Ayers of Houston Is Selected By The Steelers With The #229 Pick Of The 2016 NFL Draft

After a junior season for the ages, DeMarcus Ayers decided to declare for the NFL Draft. He is headed to Pittsburgh.

Joining teammates William Jackson and Elandon Roberts, Houston wide receiver DeMarcus Ayers is headed to the NFL after being selected by the Pittsburgh Steelers.

An explosive player that seems much faster in pads than in shorts, Ayers is an early entry to the NFL Draft. He has all of the ability that NFL teams crave, but many question marks after a poor performance at the combine.

Ayers does a great job of getting off the line of scrimmage and starting his route quickly. He is a big yards after catch player that can turn a hitch route into a 70-yard touchdown.

Explosion is the name of his game after breaking the 1,200 yards receiving plateau in 2015. He is also an asset on special teams, returning kicks at a high level since his freshman season at Houston. He could be only a return man during his first couple of seasons, but has the ability to turn into a much more complete players.

Doubts remain about his his ceiling as a receiver. Many scouts see Houston as a dreaded "system offense" and believe his numbers are inflated from the system. He will have a chance to prove them wrong in training camp.

Congratulations to DeMarcus Ayers and Houston on sending another AAC player to the NFL.
