A Lousiana Monroe Warhawks player was selected in the fifth round of the NFL Draft. Instead of the more common choice, defensive back Trey Caldwell was chosen by the Cleveland Browns with the #173 pick.
Caldwell was a solid player for the Warhawks during his college career, but very few services had him as a possible draft pick. Even the NFL's own website had little more than one sentence on Caldwell.
One thing that impressed scouts was Caldwell during ULM's pro day, a day that he showed his athleticism in impressive fashion. He is a possible depth player at cornerback that could end up spending the majority of his career on special teams.
For a player like Caldwell to go as highly as he did, the Browns saw something special in him. He is a player to keep an eye on in Browns camp this season.
Congratulations to Trey Caldwell and Louisiana Monroe on sending another Sun Belt player to the NFL.
