The Carolina Panthers surprised many experts and went to the FCS with the selection of Samford cornerback James Bradberry with the #62 pick of the 2016 NFL Draft.
Bradberry is a former Arkansas State defensive back that made the move to FCS program Samford so that he could continue playing cornerback. He was named to the First Team All-Southern Conference squad as a senior. The Alabama native is an active run stopper, not afraid to get in the mix and take down ball carriers at or behind the line of scrimmage.
He has excellent size for a cornerback prospect at 6-1, 211 pounds. Scouts are enamored with his physical prowess and expect him development to come from using his physical skills in a better way. He is very active with his long arms, showing a knack for press coverage and really jamming receivers at the line of scrimmage.
The Panthers were in need of help at cornerback after releasing Josh Norman from a franchise tag recently. Bradberry should fit right in with the defending NFC Champions, possibly starting as a rookie.
Congratulations to James Bradberry and the Samford Bulldogs on another second round draft pick, their draft picks in two seasons.
