March Madness is right around the corner, which means for most SB Nation college blogs its time to bear down with hard-hitting analysis of their team's run into the tournament.
For us here at Underdog Dynasty, that means a KNOCK DOWN, ROUGH AND TUMBLE FREE-FOR-ALL TOURNAMENT POOL.
Have a long standing grudge with one of our writers? Need yet another avenue to pad your crippling addiction to college basketball in March? Got nothing better to do until your team starts spring football?
If you suffer from a combination of those ailments, you too can join in on the action by joining our Underdoggy Style Pool.
Some interesting little quirks to this one:
1) Each person who enters the pool can have two brackets. You get to decide whether you do one or two, just know that you will lose twice as much!
2) This bracket pool has a straight progressive scoring system, meaning that each round the number of points for a correct pick goes up (1-2-3-4-5-6). Stragetize accordingly
3) As an extra fun kicker, there is an added incentive to be aggressive. We have an extra way to earn bonus points! For each upset you correctly pick, you get additional points based on how big an upset it was. We're using a multiplier system kind of like the lottery, where by round the multipliers are 5, 5, 3, 3, 1, and 1.
This means that in the first round, correctly picking a 10 seed to beat a 7 seed gets you one point for the correct pick, plus five times the three digit seed difference, so 1 + 5(10-7) = 16 points earned for the pick. Conversely, correctly picking a 14 seed to pull an upset gets you 1+ 5(14-3) = 56 points for the pick!
We decided that incentive should dwindle as the tournament goes deeper and the upsets tend to get less significant, so the pick value goes up and the upset bonus goes down. That being said, the opening rounds especially should be delightfully insane.
That's right person staring at this sentence, you can be just like the Underdog staffers and have a bracket full of picks that will eventually all be wrong. All you need to do is sign in with your Yahoo account or just create one and bam, you've joined our pool.
The winner gets bragging rights and the ability to troll our staffers all year long. Good luck!
