NCAA Football: Troy at Southern Mississippi Chuck Cook-USA TODAY Sports

The Troy Trojans are having a good year so far with a record of 4-1 and 2-0 in conference play. The one loss came from powerhouse Clemson, who only won 30-24 over Troy.

Troy as a team ties for first with SMU in interceptions forced with 12 picks. Blace Brown is in a four-way tie for first with interceptions at four. Players that rank with him are:

1. Jordan Wyatt (SMU)

2. Horace Richardson (SMU)

3. Kia Nacua (BYU).

The Trojans have played well on defense this year in the redzone. Troy ranks fifth behind:

1. Ohio State

2. Georgia Tech

3. Texas A&M

4. Wisconsin.

The Trojans also ranked 14th in third down defense and 17th in defense efficiency.

Troy has an excellent running back in Jordan Chunn. Chunn ties for ninth in the nation in rushing yards with 582. The top three rushers are:

1. Donnel Pumphrey (San Diego State).

2. Jamaal Williams (BYU)

3. Lamar Jackson (Louisville)

Troy so far has played Austin Peay, Clemson, Southern Miss, New Mexico State, and Idaho. The Trojans still have to play Georgia State, South Alabama, UMass, Appalachian State, Arkansas State, Texas State, and Georgia Southern. Troy will not have to play conference foes Louisiana Lafayette or Louisiana Monroe.

Out of the teams that are left for the Trojans the team will have to watch out for South Alabama as a major roadblock in front a Sun Belt championship. The Jaguars have beat Mississippi State and recently number 19 San Diego State. USA is 3-2 and 0-2 in the conference.

Another team of note is Appalachian State. The Mountaineers are 3-2 and 1-0 in conference play. In week one Appalachian State came close to beating Tennessee with a final score of 20-13.

The last team Troy should be more than prepared for is Georgia Southern. The Eagles are 3-2 and 2-1 in the conference. The conference loss came last night via the Red Wolves of Arkansas State who are 1-4 and 1-0 in the Sun Belt.

Troy will host Georgia State at 2:30 pm next Saturday following the bye week. The Panthers currently sit at 0-4 and will face the Texas State Bobcats tomorrow.
