Appalachian State put it on the Idaho Vandals yesterday, working both the offense and defense perfectly to take a 37-19 win at home.
Mountaineers quarterback, Taylor Lamb passed for 220 yards and running back, Jalin Moore carried the ball 23 times for a total 375 yards. In the game preview I said App State would go for 375+ yards this game and they came through right on the number. Running back, Marcus Cox sat out for this fourth consecutive game, but the offense seemed to fare well despite his absence. App State scored 13 unanswered points in the third quarter, including freshman DB, Clifton Duck’s amazing 44-yard interception return. Even backup quarterback, J.P. Caruso got some time on the field scoring his first touchdown pass of the season.
The App State defense was relentless throughout the entirety of the game, limiting Idaho to only two field goals in the second half. The Vandals first touchdown of the game happened with fours seconds left in the fourth quarter. No minute like the last minute right?
Lamb talked with the Winston-Salem Journal after the game:
Don’t worry Taylor, I see a Sun Belt championship in your near future.
The Mountaineers are now 3-0 conference play, ranked second in the Sun Belt, and 5-2 overall. They only have a few days to rest and prepare for a Thursday night game against Georgia Southern. App State is on fire right now and I don’t expect this team lose momentum going into week nine.
