If you follow the AP poll, this is a good week to be a Group of 5 fan.

Four. Count it, FOUR Group of 5 teams are ranked by the AP poll this week. Two of them are in the top 15.

We all knew Houston would drop after losing to Navy, but they didn’t fall far. They simply reverted to roughly their preseason spot (actually still a little better), coming in at #13.

Boise State jumped 4 spots to #15 after their 49-21 thumping of New Mexico. Plus, BSU’s wins over Washington State and Oregon State are looking a lot better after WSU blew out #15 Stanford and OSU knocked off Cal in OT.

Two newcomers join this week. Western Michigan finally creeps into the poll at #24 after a 6-0 start which includes 2 wins over the B1G.

Navy rounds out the rankings at #25 after their monumental upset of Houston. This brings them to 4-1 with their only loss being to rival Air Force.

The Coaches Poll wasn’t kind enough to rank Navy, but WMU did make it in.

This gives us 2 American, 1 MWC, and 1 MAC team ranked. Is the gap closing?

Others receiving votes:

(#31) North Dakota State, 5-0 (36 points)

(#34) South Florida, 5-1 (20 points)

(#39) Air Force, 4-1 (2 points)

(#39) San Diego State, 4-1 (2 points)
