Southern Miss Hires Alcorn State's Jay Hopson as Head Coach

The Golden Eagles reached out to a familiar face to fill their head coaching vacancy this evening. With just three days remaining until signing day, Southern Miss moved quickly through the coaching search in order to maintain their recruiting class. After being spurned by Chip Lindsey and Doug Nussmeier, Hopson became the obvious solution. Hopson's roots are firmly planted in Mississippi and he fully understands the tradition and history of Golden Eagle football. While Hopson doesn't quite qualify as a homerun hire on the national scale, it's a great fit for a strong program that should continue to see sustained success in Conference USA. Be sure to check back for more reaction as Hopson takes over in Hattiesburg.
