Unable to overcome a horrid start to the game, the Louisiana Ragin Cajuns fell to the Akron Zips 35-14 Saturday night in Lafayette.
There were so many possible ways this game could have gone. No one expected the Zips to dominate from start to finish in one of the best team performances in a very long time.
Akron jumped out early with touchdowns on two of their first three drives of the game in route to taking a 14-0 lead. Louisiana finally respond with a 7-play, 75-yad dire, capped by a 17-yard touchdown run from Elijah McGuire to cut the Akron lead to 14-7.
Louisiana had a chance to tie the game late in the first half, but a fourth-and-goal at the one was stonewalled, sending the Ragin' Cajuns off with no points. The score at halftime was 14-7 in favor of Akron.
The Zips essentially put the game away with back-to-back touchdown drives to start the second half that extended the Akron lead to 35-7.
Louisiana added a garbage time score with 6:22 remaining to make up the final 35-7 shoreline.
The Ragin' Cajuns have no time to regroup with a tip to Louisiana Tech next on the schedule.
