According to Texas State football beat writer Joe Vozzelli at the San Marcos Record, it looks like the Bobcats and SMU will be facing off against each other in a new non-conference series.
This just in: #TXST will face SMU in a home-and-home series, a source confirmed to me. Series will be 2018, 2019.

Texas State put out a hype-building tweet similar to the one used prior to the announcement of the Colorado road game in 2017.

Looks like Vozzelli beat the school to the punch once again. We'll find out for sure whether the announcement is indeed a home and home with SMU tomorrow morning, but Vozzelli's track record with his sources has been reliable in the past.
Texas State and SMU last faced off in 2008, where Bradley George and the Bobcats hung around to try and spring an upset bid as a then-FCS team. However, turnovers ultimately doomed Texas State in a 47-36 loss. This time around, the hype for the series should be much more palpable.
Well, there will be hype in at least in one direction, as Bobcat fans will likely be hyped up for a series against another Texas FBS school. There's also the possibility of a Chad Morris vs. Dennis Franchione matchup, which would be an intriguing clash between the old and new guard of the coaching ranks.
SMU joins UTSA and Tulsa on Texas State's 2018 out of conference schedule and will be the first team on the 2019 OOC slate. The Mustangs will have a loaded 2018 out of conference lineup as Texas State rounds out games at North Texas, Michigan, and at home against TCU. SMU is also scheduled to play at Arkansas State and at home against UNT in 2019.
