Appalachian State and Marshall set to renew rivalry in 2021-2022

The two former SoCon foes will play for the first time since 2002.

Chuck Cook-USA TODAY Sports

Both Appalachian State and Marshall announced a home and home series set for 2021 and 2022 on Wednesday afternoon. The series will start on September 25, 2021 in Boone, North Carolina and the the return game will be the following season on September 227, 2022 in Huntington, West Virginia.

The two teams have a history going back to the Southern Conference in I-AA/FCS and have met 22 times in total, with App State holding a 14-8 series edge. The last meeting as conference foes was in 1996 before the Thundering Herd moved to I-A/FBS and the two sides played once more in 2002 as an FCS vs FBS game.

With the match-up, both teams have added another non-conference game to a robust schedule several years down the line.
