Kansas City Chiefs Draft Illinois State TE James O'Shaughnessy With 173rd Pick

A depth pick for the Chiefs gives them a backup plan to Travis Kelce

Tim Heitman-USA TODAY Sports

Well, they're just flying off the board like hotcakes now. O'Shaughnessy is a depth pick for the Chiefs, an option to either place behind or alongside Travis Kelce depending on how the 2015 season unfolds.

Scouts have described him as a "basketball" tight end, which is I guess de rigieur terminology post- Antonio Gates and Jimy Graham. He's a good receiver, but needs work on both his route running and his in-line blocking (which goes right along with being a little bit lacking in the leg strength department). He showed well at Northwestern's pro day, and was drafted right around where everyone expected him to go.

Imagine that.
