UAB fans got a rare treat as speedy receiver J.J. Nelson was selected by the Arizona Cardinals with the 23rd pick in the fifth round. Nelson started gathering draft hype at the NFL Combine, where he ran a blazing-fast 4.28 40.
J.J. was a pleasure to watch at UAB, where he excelled returning kicks. In the Blazers' swan song of a 2014 season, Nelson recorded four (!!) return touchdowns with a ludicrous 38.3-yard average on kick returns.
Nelson is small-- 5'10", 156 lbs.-- and is unlikely to break into the Cardinals' rotation at receiver, but he can certainly do a ton of damage on special teams. You can read our scouting report on Nelson here.
