And there we have it. David Johnson of Northern Iowa becomes the seventh running back selected in the draft, and this pick makes a whole lot of sense for a Bruce Arians offense.
After his impressive combine performance, Mel Kiper, Jr. believed that Johnson improved his stock from 5th to 4th round potential, and it appears the Cardinals like him even more than that. For a roster that currently features Andre Ellington as the most experienced back on the roster, Johnson is a desirable option.
As we discussed in our original draft profile, Johnson has the hands and agility to be a solid third-down back, which is his likely floor. If he can get better at utilizing all his size (all 6'1" and 229 of it) in a more powerful, between-the-tackles manner, he could find his way into every-down duty, since he's immediately the biggest back on the roster.
