American Athletic Conference Championship 1st quarter update: Houston 7, Temple 0

After 15 minutes at a mostly full TDECU stadium, Houston holds a 7-0 lead against the visiting Temple Owls in the inaugural American Athletic Conference championship game. Temple's PJ Walker had a pass intercepted on the Owls' opening drive at their own 44, giving Houston an opportunity to drive methodically down to the end zone for a 1 yard touchdown run by Javin Webb.

Temple looked as if they would respond as Owl receiver after Owl receiver bailed out Walker on a few errant throws.

However, when Temple looked like they were about to move into the UH red zone, the Cougar defense knocked the ball free from Robby Anderson and Trevon Stewart recovered, giving him a huge milestone in his career.

Aside from the early scoring drive and a busted play to a wide open Chance Allen that could've been a touchdown if Greg Ward hadn't overthrown it, Temple's defense has mostly kept Houston in check. However, the Cougar defense has been even more successful in limiting Temple's run game and containing their passing attack.

The two teams exchanged possessions after the initial scoring salvo and turnovers, but Houston was able to down a punt at the Temple 6 and is controlling field position. As of the end of the 1st, UH is driving at the Temple 26.
