In a mix of pouring rain and fog, the home-standing Appalachian State Mountaineers didn't get to play their game, but in the end played good enough for a 31-13 victory over the visiting Wyoming Cowboys
Despite a 373-314 yard advantage and having the ball for nearly 38 minutes, Wyoming couldn't get the big play when it counted and played from behind the entire game.
On the first play from scrimmage, Marcus Cox took the hand-off 59 yards to the house. Wyoming marched down the field right after, but a horrible throw from Cameron Coffman straight to Latrell Gibbs was returned 91 yards for the 14-0 App lead five minutes in. It was Gibbs' fifth interception on the year.
The Cowboys got on the board on the first play of the second quarters as Brian Hill found pay-dirt from two yards out to make it 14-7. Wyoming had chances to make it closer or tie the game in the second quarter, but a 40-yard field goal attempt by Tristan Bailey was no good and a 4th and 1 attempt was fumbled on the snap.
The Mountaineers made their chance before halftime count as a field goal attempt was faked for a first down. Then on the next play, Taylor Lamb found Simms McElfresh from 18 yards out to make it 21-7 right before half.

Wyoming tried to drive early in the second half, but consecutive sacks forced a punt. Then App put a drive together and took a commanding 28-7 lead on a 9-yard Lamb keeper.
As the weather deteriorated even worse, the teams traded drives with Wyoming failing on a 4th and 15 from the App 33. Then the Mountaineers added a 51-yard field goal with three minutes left. Coffman to Tapscott from nine yards out with 44 seconds set the final score at 31-13 after the PAT was bobbled.
Hill lead all players with 208 yards on 30 attempts and one touchdown for the Pokes. Cox had 178 yards on 15 carries and a touchdown. Coffman was 14 of 19 passing with a touchdown and an interception. Lamb only went 3 of 12 passing for 65 yards, a rushing touchdown, a passing touchdown and an interception.
Both teams finished non-conference play with this game. App State, 3-1, begins Sun Belt play next Saturday at Georgia State while Wyoming, 0-5 travels to Air Force.
