Paxton Lynch threw for 305 yards and two touchdowns to help the Memphis Tigers (5-0) defeat the USF Bulls 24-17 at Raymond James Stadium on Saturday.
USF jumped out to a 10-0 lead thanks to a one-yard Darius Tice rushing touchdown and a 31-yard field goal by Emili Nadelman.
Memphis would then put up 17 unanswered points to take a 24-10 lead with 10:39 remaining in the fourth quarter. Lynch was involved in all three of the Tigers touchdowns, with two through the air and another on a three-yard run.
The Bulls would make the game interesting with a 23-yard touchdown pass from Quinton Flowers to Elkanah Dillon to cut Memphis' lead to 24-17. USF failed to recover the onside kick but they did force the Tigers to punt allowing for a potential game-tying drive with 44 seconds remaining.
Flowers would throw an interception on the second play of the drive to seal the Bulls fate as they fall to 1-3 with the loss and open up American Athletic Conference play 0-1. Memphis remains undefeated with the win and improve to 2-0 in conference.
Flowers finished the game with 199 yards passing while throwing both a touchdown and an interception in the fourth quarter. The Bulls' offense totaled 377 yards with an even 178 on the ground to the 199 yards through the air.
USF will now prepare for an out of conference game against Syracuse next week at home. Kickoff is set for 3:30 p.m. EST with the game being televised on CBS SPorts Network.
