Thursday night marks the first FBS game in this long-running rivalry between conference foes very familiar with each other.

Series History: Appalachian State leads the series with a 16-12-1 record. The last game played was a 38-14 victory for App State at Kidd-Brewer Stadium.

Fun facts:

This has been a big rivalry game for both teams since Georgia Southern entered the Southern Conference in 1991. They moved up to the Sun Belt Conference together this past summer and will continue a great rivalry, there.

Appalachian State's starting QB is Taylor Lamb, son of former Furman head coach (and current Mercer Bears head coach) Bobby Lamb. Furman was also a big SOCON rival of both App State and Ga Southern

This marks the first Thursday night home game at Allen E. Paulson Stadium since the 21 September 1989 "Hugo Bowl," which was one of the first ever ESPN Thursday night games.
