It's a good week to be a BYU Cougar. The Cougars are coming off of a resounding season-opening win at UConn, and the voters are noticing.
BYU comes in as the top Group of Five team in both the Associated Press and the USA Today Coaches top 25 polls, coming in at No. 33 in the coaches and No. 35 in the AP.
Yet the Cougars are still significantly far away from being in the actual Top 25 in either poll. Perhaps another win over Texas (No. 25 in the coaches) could change that.
The rest of the Group of Five is also struggling to get significant pull in the Top 25.
Marshall, UL Lafayette and Cincinatti come the closest.
Noticeably absent is the defending Fiesta Bowl champions, UCF. The Knights lost a heart breaker to Penn State in Dublin over the weekend, 26-24. Penn State won with a last-second field goal. One would have to think UCF would be getting some major love from the pollsters had that field goal gone wide.
I'll list the No. 25 teams in each poll for reference of how far out the G5 teams are.
