Rakeem Cato hit Deon-Tay McManus for a 6 yard touchdown pass on he first play of he second quarter. LA Tech led 10-7 with 14:57 before halftime.
Kenneth Dixon had a long run called back on a loading call on the next LA Tech possession. Tech also had a false start on he drive and the Bulldogs had to punt. The Tech offensive line showed signs of missing two starts on the drive after two penalties.
A Houston Bates sack forced another punt by Marshall and Tech had a chance to add to their lead with 11:22 left before halftime. Cato has had a few big plays but the Tech defense has kept him off balance for most of the game.
Tech got a first down near the 50, but they had to punt. An ugly 26 yard pun turned into a positive for the Bulldogs as it bounced off a Marshall player. The Bulldogs recovered at Marshall's 40. Marshall appeared to have Tech stopped at the 35 on 4th and 5. Tech QB Cody Sokol drew Marshall offsides and on the next play Kenneth Dixon ran it in for a 30 yard touchdown. LA Tech led 17-7 with 7:41 left before halftime.
Marshall was forced to punt again, but Marshall pinned the Bulldogs back to he 2 yard line. It paid off as Marshall was a blue to force a three and out and get the ball back at the LA Tech 34. Marshall was able to get a field goal out of the good field position and with 3:52 left before the half, LA Tech led 17-10.
Tech moved down the field a little, but more importantly, they gave the ball back to Marshall with just 19 ticks left on the clock. Marshall used two plays to get it all the way down to the Tech 28 with 5 seconds to go.
Another Marshall field goal and the LA Tech lead was cut to 17-13.
Cato was 9-20 for 136 yards in the irst half with one touchdown. Marshall had just 46 yards rushing after leading the conference in that category.
LA Tech had two scores off of two Marshall turnovers. Kenneth Dixon had 12 carries for 104 yards and both touchdowns.
