Remembering a Legend

Here at Underdog Dynasty we cover a small portion of the grand sports world. From time to time there are certain events outside of the lines which have the ability to touch all sports fans. Although it has been a day since the news broke about his passing, I feel we would be remised to not speak on the life that was Stuart Scott. I imagine many of you, much like myself, grew up with a love for sports. It was 20 years ago that I developed a love for ESPN and SportsCenter. There were so many incredible personalities involved in the making of SportsCenter, but none shined as bright as Stuart Scott. His energy would seem to draw you in to the show as much as the incredibly highlights on the screen. And who can forget the catch phrase. From "Pookie and Ray Ray" to "Boo-Yah," Scott developed a lingo that could never be duplicated. During the 90’s it was not uncommon to hear Scotts various catchphrases used from gyms to school yards. Scott, in the truest sense of the word, was a pioneer in his craft. In 2007 Scott learned that he had cancer. His solution, as you may have heard in the recent hours, was to fight. Stuart fought cancer so hard, all the while entertaining us nightly with his commentating. In his final months he still appeared on sports shows, spoke at award ceremonies, and handed out championship hardware (2014 NBA Champions) all while fighting his cancer. In hind sight I find the past few years as a reflection of how we should live life. We should live like Stuart Scott and live to the fullest of all extents and with no excuses. In recent days family and friends of Scott have talked about the extent of the life he lived, how he loved his beautiful family, and how he loved sports. On this night it seems appropriate to remember Stuart Scott and his legacy. We should appreciate the talent that he was as well as the life he lived. It seems appropriate that tonight, if only for one night for Stuart, we all flip our pillows to the cool side. Thank you for all of the memories you left us Stuart Scott, and rest in peace.
